Belise Kariza

Country Director, African Wildlife Foundation, Rwanda

Belise Kariza, the African Wildlife Foundation’s Country Director for Rwanda, has dedicated her career to advancing conservation and sustainable tourism. Her understanding of the vital connection between wildlife, wild lands, and economic prosperity deepened during her tenure in public service, where she led Rwanda’s tourism agenda.

 

From 2015 to 2021, Kariza served as Chief Tourism Officer at the Rwanda Development Board, driving the growth and transformation of Rwanda’s tourism sector. Her efforts included fostering collaborations with organizations like AWF and championing initiatives that highlighted Rwanda as a global destination for eco-tourism.

 

With a solid background in international business and operations, Kariza now oversees AWF’s conservation programs in Rwanda. She is passionate about empowering youth and women to actively participate in conservation efforts and shaping a sustainable future for the nation.

 

Kariza’s vision for conservation blends economic development with environmental stewardship, inspiring a new generation to value and protect Rwanda’s natural heritage.
