Sonia Kabra is the Co-Founder and Director of BuuPass, a leading mobility and transport technology company transforming transportation systems in East Africa. With over six years of experience in the sector, Sonia spearheads product development and strategic partnerships, collaborating with major banks, telecommunications companies, and government agencies to create innovative platforms for seamless bus and train booking and payment solutions.

 

Driven by a passion for leveraging technology to modernize traditional markets, Sonia has played a pivotal role in building BuuPass into a groundbreaking enterprise. The company earned global recognition as the winner of the Hult Prize 2016, the world’s largest student competition for social good, securing $1M in seed funding. Despite the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, BuuPass achieved profitability in 2021, a testament to the team’s resilience and adaptability.

 

Beyond her work with BuuPass, Sonia is dedicated to fostering entrepreneurship and innovation across Africa. She actively mentors aspiring entrepreneurs through initiatives such as Women Who Build Africa and Hult Prize Africa, contributing to the development of a vibrant entrepreneurial ecosystem.
